Peleș is the finer building by a wide margin — a Neo-Renaissance summer palace with a hundred and sixty rooms, built for a king who wanted Bavaria in the Carpathians. It closes on Mondays and Tuesdays, and its queues build fast, so we drive over the Predeal pass first thing and come back through Bran in the afternoon.
- Peleș Castle at Sinaia, opened for the day at 09:00
- The Prahova valley road through Predeal
- Bran Castle in the afternoon, once the morning coaches have gone
- Two castles, no train changes, no waiting for a group

Questions guests ask
- Is one day enough for both castles?
- Comfortably, with a private car. Sinaia is about fifty minutes from Brașov and Bran about thirty-five, and the two sit on either side of the city, so the driving is honest rather than rushed.
- When is Peleș Castle closed?
- Mondays and Tuesdays through most of the year, and for a maintenance period in November. The planner checks the day you choose and tells you before you book.
- Which castle is worth more time?
- Peleș. The interiors are the best-preserved royal rooms in the country. Bran is shorter and better outside than in.
